Parent Meet Etiquette
If you are new to Track & Field or simply want a brush up on the do's and don't's of track meets, please look through this list
DO:
DON'T:
If you are a seasoned track and field parent or you see things throughout the season you want to add to this list, please let Coach Stoker know.
DO:
- Dress warmly & bring snacks! The sun goes down early and it gets chilly quick. Meets always last longer than anticipated, so bring a snack and something warm to drink
- Cheer on every athlete! We are here to support West Henderson Track & Field, please root for all of our awesome athletes.
- Chat with your athlete/the team positively! They are so happy you are here! Please speak to them encouragingly.
- Talk with coaches first. Please speak to Coach Stoker if you have any issues. Hopefully it can be resolved quickly to your satisfaction.
- Get excited about this awesome sport! It is so much fun
DON'T:
- Wear shorts. Take it from a coach who has been frozen before. Please dress warmly
- Expect the meet to be done before sundown. Most meets will last until 8 p.m. or later
- Fuss at your athlete while they are competing. They already have more than enough on their mind. Speak positively before, during, and after competition
- Go straight to the athletic director with a concern. Please speak with Coach Stoker first.
- Come in with a bad attitude. Attitudes are infectious. We are all out here freezing, we might as well freeze with a smile on our face.

Athlete Track & Field Etiquette
If you are new to Track & Field or simply want a brush up on the do's and don't's of track meets, please look through this list
DO:
If you are a seasoned track and field athlete or you see things throughout the season you want to add to this list, please let Coach Stoker know.
DO:
- Leave class on time! Make sure you ask your teacher at the start of class what you will be missing.
- Come prepared to complete work. Bring your backpack with you so that you can get assignments done in between your events.
- Dress warmly & bring snacks! The sun goes down early and it gets chilly quick. We will have snacks there, but make sure you bring enough to keep yourself full until the bus ride home. Also, bring extra clothes x100. Bring a blanket, hat, gloves, etc. It will be colder than you realize and the bus does NOT heat up quickly.
- Cheer on everyone on your team! We are here to support West Henderson Track & Field, please root for all of our awesome athletes. Go watch field events if you have time!
- Chat with the team positively! Your attitude toward your teammates/coach directly correlates to their attitude. Make sure to keep everything positive -- even if you are freezing.
- Talk with coaches first. Please speak to Coach Stoker if you have any issues. Hopefully it can be resolved quickly to your satisfaction.
- Get excited about this awesome sport! It is so much fun
- Tell Coach Stoker or a team parent if you are leaving. Coach Stoker is responsible for the entire team and will look for you if your name is not marked off.
- Miss the bus! There is a North Carolina Law that states that athletes who drive themselves to meets CANNOT compete.
- Make us wait on you! When we need to leave West for the meet or leave the meet, make sure you leave with the team and are ready to roll
- ASK IF WE ARE GOING TO EAT. WE WILL TELL YOU.
- Sit around doing nothing the entire meet, then complain about homework. Use the time you have to your advantage.
- Wear shorts. Take it from a coach who has been frozen before. Please dress warmly. Please don't expect your teammates to provide clothes/warmness for you.
- Expect the meet to be done before sundown. Most meets will last until 8 p.m. or later
- Fuss at your teammates while they are competing. They already have more than enough on their mind. Speak positively before, during, and after competition.
- Be negative about your performance. Every meet is a learning experience. If you didn't like your performance, focus on how to improve it. Don't get angry for the rest of the day. That is not productive.
- Go straight to the athletic director with a concern. Please speak with Coach Stoker first.
- Come in with a bad attitude. Attitudes are infectious. We are all out here freezing, we might as well freeze with a smile on our face.
- Leave without talking to someone. If you do, there will be consequences.
If you are a seasoned track and field athlete or you see things throughout the season you want to add to this list, please let Coach Stoker know.
Team Parents
Team Parents are a vital part of our program. They collect money for snacks, provide snacks at each meet, and support our program. They also coordinate concessions at home meets, help with the set-up of fundraisers, and assist with the banquet at the end of the season.
We need 4-5 team parents based on the size of our program and we would love any help we can get. If you have any interest in donating your time to this awesome cause, please let Coach Stoker know.
